Frequently Asked Questions with Caltex

Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns Caltex Australia?
Chevron – one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies – owns the Caltex brand and has been present in Australia  for more than 70 years.
What does Chevron have to do with Caltex?

Caltex is a global brand owned by Chevron.

In 2020, Chevron acquired the Puma Energy fuel business in Australia and delivers quality fuel and lubricant products through a national network of service stations, primarily under the Puma brand. The plan was always to transition the Puma brand in Australia to Caltex. This change is now underway, and you will soon see select Puma service stations becoming new Caltex sites.

I’ve noticed old Caltex service stations becoming Ampol, and Puma service stations becoming Caltex – what’s going on?

Caltex is a global brand owned by Chevron. The Caltex brand name was previously used by Ampol under an exclusive brand licence in Australia. That licence is no longer exclusive and from 2023 the Caltex brand will be solely used by Chevron.

In 2020, Chevron purchased the Puma Energy fuel business in Australia and has started rebranding many of the Puma service stations to Caltex.

Why is Puma becoming Caltex?
Chevron operates and supplies the Puma service station network in Australia and owns the globally recognised Caltex brand. In January 2022, Chevron started branding new service stations in Australia as Caltex and is rebranding many of its existing Puma service stations as Caltex.
