SHAH ALAM, October 16, 2010 – Caltex™ announced today that it will be hosting free soccer clinics in the Klang Valley for young sports enthusiasts. Teaming up with Supa Strikas, the Caltex Supa Cup Clinics will kickoff its first ever Under-12 soccer clinic sessions for three Saturdays as of October 23.
A spin-off from the annual Caltex Supa Cup futsal tournament, the Caltex Supa Cup Clinics aims to help children aged seven to 12 raise their game by providing a platform to improve soccer skills and boost clean sportsmanship. Children will undergo the basics to hone “Supa skills” such as dribbling, passing and shooting. Notable license C coaches, former international footballer Shahrin Majid and sports commentator Zainal Abidin Rawop, will lead the concise training.
“The Caltex Supa Cup Clinics aim to teach our kids how to bend it like Supa Strikas star Striker Shakes, as well as help instill some important values: the values of good clean competition; the values of teamwork; the values of working with somebody to win for something greater than yourself. Exactly what Supa Strikas stands for,” said Chevron’s Mokhtar Ali Ismail, Policy, Government & Public Affairs Manager at the prize presentation of the Caltex Supa Cup 2010 outside the Shah Alam Stadium.
Held on October 16, the second annual Caltex Supa Cup boasted the participation of 64 talented teams of four. After almost seven hours of hard playing and quick-paced two versus two, two minute-matches, the Caltex Supa Cup drew to a close with team Dragon 24 Three ‘B’, comprising12-year-olds Muhammad Fauhrul Addin Abdul Rahim and Raja Muhammad Izwan Raja Muhamad Rahman, emerging victor. The winners walked away with a grand prize of RM2,000, medals and bragging rights. First, second and third-runner ups, Nike FC ‘B’, MPPJ ‘B’, Perdana JR‘C’, also received cash prizes of RM1,000, RM500 and RM300 respectively. Amid the fancy footwork, football fans were entertained by plenty of festive fun: inflatable skill games, freestylers, face painters, clowns, quizzes, comics and prizes aplenty.
According to Rosli Ismail, coach of Caltex Supa Cup champions Dragon 24 FC and another 14 participants from Section 24, Shah Alam, the winnings will go towards a celebration with supporters and players. “This is certainly a good opportunity to get the boys in play and we look forward to more opportunities to hone their skills,” added Rosli.
The Caltex Supa Cup Clinics will be held at the All Rounder Indoor Soccer, Petaling Jaya (October 23); Sports Planet, Sunway (October 30) and IFC, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur (November 13). Each venue will hold two sessions; from 10am to 11am, and 12 noon to 1pm. Children who successfully complete each clinic will receive a certificate signed by the illustrated Supa Strikas hero, Shakes and a limited edition Supa Strika jersey.
