SHAH ALAM, October 12, 2010 – Caltex™, together with Supa Strikas will host the second Caltex Supa Cup in Shah Alam come Saturday, October 16. To kick-off at the Shah Alam Stadium outdoor carpark, the Caltex Supa Cup will see 64 talented teams of four under-12 battle it out in a unique futsal “cage” pitch to see who is crowned the Supa Cup Champions.
The teams will be divided into eight groups who will play in a round-robin styled tournament where the top two teams from each group will advance into the knock-out stages of the tournament. The winning team will walk away with a grand prize of RM2,000. First, second and third runner-ups will also receive cash prizes of RM1,000, RM500 and RM300 respectively.
Amid the fancy footwork, football fans will be entertained by plenty of festive fun: inflatable skill games, freestylers, face painters, clowns, quizzes, comics and prizes aplenty.
The Caltex Supa Cup is a futsal tournament resulting from the successful headline sponsorship Caltex™ has of the Supa Strikas, the multi-platform soccer property that includes various print formats (monthly and weekly comics), comprehensive internet offering, and full length animated television series in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
The Caltex Supa Cup was developed to help youths raise their game by providing a platform to improve soccer skills as well as perform against peers. Encouraged by the tournament’s popularity, Caltex is hosting six free soccer clinics for kids under-12 in the Klang Valley. Former international player Shahrin Majid and sports commentator Zainal Abidin Rawop will coach the kids on basic soccer skills beginning October 23. As spaces are limited to the first 300, drop by the sign-up booth to learn more. Details of the Caltex Supa Cup:
