Caltex in the Community

The Caltex brand, as part of the Chevron Corporation, has a proud history of socially responsible and ethical operations and a track record of caring for each community it operates in, through its many outreach programmes. Caltex’s Community Partnerships are dedicated to filling the small needs respectfully to help the disadvantaged get on with bigger things in their lives, reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

From 2000 to 2008, Chevron has contributed approximately S$1.5 million to various community organizations in Singapore. Two of the organizations we have a close partnership with are the Society for the Physically Disabled and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The Society for the Physically Disabled

Caltex has a long standing partnership with the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), and has supported its Education Programme since 2002. To date, Caltex has raised significant resources for the program which provides study grants to disabled students or students with disabled parents. The aid has helped 600 students from primary to tertiary levels to complete their education.

From 2005 to 2008, Caltex also ran Groceries for Charity, a project where Chevron employee volunteers make monthly door-to-door deliveries of food items to over 100 families supplementing their usual supply. The families were identified by SPD and include those with disabled children or disabled parents.

Most recently, Chevron Singapore organized The Amazing Caltex Charity Car Wash in conjunction with Caltex's successful sponsorship of The Amazing Race Asia 2. Together with volunteers from SPD and Chevron, the top three teams of The Amazing Race Asia 2 helped to wash cars for charity. All proceeds raised were donated to SPD’s Education Program.

The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund

The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund was initiated on Children's Day (October 1) in the year 2000 by Singapore’s national daily, The Straits Times, to heighten public awareness of the plight of children from low-income families who were attending school without proper breakfast, or pocket money to sustain their day in school.

The aim is to alleviate the financial burden faced by parents in providing for their children's education. At the same time the funds will help children who are already facing difficulties in remaining in school to stay on.

Chevron became the Fund’s first corporate sponsor in 2000 and over the years, we have helped to raise funds through charity car washes and employee fund-raising exercises.
