The Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership is an international partnership with the global Chevron global. This programme make use of TV and other audiovisual equipment to further education within impoverished communities. Here in South Africa, the programme is bringing the information age to thousands of children in under-resourced communities of the Limpopo Province. To date, five educational learning centres have been established and equipped with TV’s, VCR and DVD players as well as a library containing specially orientated educational material. Each learning centre caters to the needs of about 3000 children. Many of the children being educated through this initiative are from poor rural farm communities where there is a high-prevalence of the HIV/AIDS infection. The innovative partnership between Chevron and the Discovery Channel will ensure that thousands of these rural children have access to educational resources and materials in order to compliment and facilitate their education and learning experience.
