Since commencing operations in South Africa in 1911, Caltex has invested over R250 million in a variety of programmes and initiatives focused on developing and supporting the needs of historically disadvantaged South Africans. Our rationale for these efforts goes beyond our drive for market eminence and bottom-line profits. It is based on the premise that it makes good business sense.
In 1977, Caltex was one of the original signatories to the Sullivan Principles – a code of responsible practice and social justice for all. Apart from offering employment opportunities for nearly 1400 employees, Caltex has provided seed funding for a variety of diverse projects and programmes aimed at building and developing our nation.
Our social investment to date has fuelled initiatives and partnerships in the following areas: education and training, job creation and business development, health and welfare, arts and culture and environmental conservation. Here are some of the projects that we have supported.
Sponsorships
Supa Strikas
Caltex is the
main sponsor of the soccer team in the innovative comic series that has been
making waves across Africa -- Supa Strikas.
The story revolves around the journey of a township kid to sports stardom and
the valuable lessons he learns along the way. Consistent with the values of
Caltex, Supa Strikas inspires readers to work hard, believe in themselves, and
pursue great things. Following the success of this sponsorship, Caltex has taken
the comic series to five other African territories.
