According to the World Health Organization, the Philippines ranks 9th in the world for the number of cases of tuberculosis and has the highest number of cases per head in Southeast Asia. Almost two thirds of Filipinos have tuberculosis, and up to five million people are infected yearly in our country.
Chevron has partnered with the The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as part of its $30 million commitment. The Philippines is receiving a total of $5 million (PhP 235M) in 2008-2010 to help fight tuberculosis (TB).
Through its network of Caltex stations all over the country, Chevron plans to further fight TB through an education and awareness campaign targeting Caltex retailers, their forecourt attendants and public motorists. The focus will be prevention and early detection of TB to help stop the spread of the disease.
