1. What is Techron® D?

  • Techron® D is an advanced multi-functional fuel additive that is exclusive to Caltex.
  • Techron® D uses the latest advancements in additive technology which are a significant improvement over our previous technology, delivering a higher level of cleaning performance.

2. What is Caltex Diesel with Techron® D and how is it different from currently available diesels in the market?

  • Caltex Diesel with Techron® D is a new and improved diesel which contains the exclusive Techron® D additive. Caltex Diesel with Techron® D is proven to control deposits, help maintain fuel injector cleanliness and support optimum engine performance.
  • Caltex Diesel with Techron® D is a significant improvement in our additive technology, delivering a higher level of cleaning performance.
  • It is specially formulated for the diesel engine, and has been designed to clean the critical parts of new and old diesel engines and to offer benefits to diesel users with cleaner, faster filling due to the antifoam plus added corrosion protection.
  • Caltex Diesel with Techron® D works in both old and new diesel engines, and in a range of diesel specifications including biodiesel blends.

3. What are the benefits of Caltex Diesel with Techron® D?

  • The product benefits of Caltex Diesel with Techron® D are supported by extensive testing and research. In engine and laboratory tests, diesel with Techron® D was proven to:
    • o Produce cleaner fuel injectors with more flow in standard engine tests
    • o Maintain cleaner fuel injectors and deliver more power in standard engine tests
    • o Protect metal surfaces against corrosion
    • o Produce less foam resulting in a cleaner and faster fill

4. How is Techron® D different from Techron®?

  • Techron® D is specially formulated for the diesel engine while Techron® is formulated for gasoline engines.

5. What tests have been conducted on Caltex Diesel with Techron® D?

Our test results prove what a difference Techron® D makes to diesel.

The four tests are:
  • The clean test CEC F-23-01
  • The power test CEC F-98-08
  • The corrosion test ASTM D665
  • The foam test NF-N07-075

Clean Test

CEC F-23-01 is a standard engine test to determine diesel fuel injector coking. At the end of the test, the injectors are removed from the engine and then flow tested to measure how effective the fuel has been at preventing injector fouling.

By keeping fuel injectors clean, diesel with Techron® D produced more flow at the end of the test than diesel containing no Techron® D. Dirty injectors can upset the spray pattern and hinder the fuel-air mixing process. This can result in decreased fuel economy and increased emissions.

The tests were conducted by an ISO9001 accredited laboratory

Power Test

CEC F-98-08 is a standard engine test to determine diesel fuel injector fouling by measuring the resultant engine power loss caused by performance robbing deposits.

By keeping fuel injectors clean, diesel with Techron® D produced more power at the end of the test than diesel containing no Techron® D.

The tests were conducted by ISO9001 accredited laboratory.

Corrosion Test

ASTM D665 is a standard laboratory test that can demonstrate how well an additive protects metal surfaces from corrosion.

Under accelerated corrosion conditions with heat and water, a metal rod in diesel without Techron® D had visible rust spots and a metal rod immersed in diesel with Techron® D remained rust free.

Techron® D contains powerful corrosion inhibitors that protect the metal surfaces by forming a protective barrier from corrosive agents.

The tests were conducted by an ISO9001 accredited laboratory

Foam Test

NF-N07-075 is a laboratory test designed to measure diesel foaming, including the maximum foam height and how quickly the foam collapses.

The diesel with Techron® D produced less foam and a faster collapse time than the diesel that did not contain Techron® D. This results in a cleaner, faster filling experience for our customers.

6. What makes Caltex Diesel with Techron® D different from competitor’s diesel?

  • Chevron, which owns and markets the Caltex brand, is the only company that carries diesel containing Techron® D – a breakthrough in additive technology which has proven cleaning power.
  • Techron® D is exclusive to Chevron. It is sold through the following Chevron-owned brands – Chevron, Texaco and Caltex.
  • Techron® D is specially formulated to clean fuel injectors, prevent corrosion and provide a cleaner filling experience.
    • o Cleaner injectors can mean better fuel economy and more power

7. Do fuel additives really improve engine performance?

  • We cannot comment on other additives. There is certainly a range of effectiveness in the marketplace.
