Caltex in the Community

Malaysia

The Caltex brand, as part of the Chevron Corporation, has a proud history of socially responsible and ethical operations and a track record of caring for each community it operates in, through its many outreach programs. Caltex’s Community Partnerships are dedicated to filling the small needs respectfully to help the disadvantaged get on with bigger things in their lives, reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

Our community engagements in Malaysia span from education, training, charitable events and contributions to those in need, particularly that championing HIV/AIDS awareness and support. Some recent examples include:

1. Caltex Body Works

MY Photo 1 Launched in February 2010 under Chevron’s “Energy for Learning” global initiative, the Caltex Body Works program is a community engagement aimed to empower secondary school students aged between 15 and 17 with reproductive health information and knowledge via workshops conducted by non-governmental organization, Federation of Reproductive Health Associations, Malaysia (FRHAM). To run in 2010, the program represents Chevron’s belief that fueling young minds with information and knowledge on reproductive health and diseases such as HIV/AIDS will shape them into healthy and responsible adults that can contribute positively to their communities and the nation at large.

2. HIV/AIDS Awareness

MY Photo 2 In celebration of World AIDS Day 2009, Chevron staff raised RM8,000 towards improving the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS. The contribution to Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) was raised from a number of activities, including a four-day public charity sale of Caltex™ merchandise and the collection of essentials such as canned-food items, packet drinks, baby diapers, new books and much more. The contributions were channeled to projects and shelters related to HIV/AIDS such as Rumah Nur Salam. Chevron was also a sponsor of the public launch of World AIDS Day 2009 at Wangsa Walk Mall, Kuala Lumpur, officiated by former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed.

For International AIDS Memorial Day 2009, Chevron staff joined forces with OMRON Electronics to scrub-up funds for the Malaysian AIDS Council. More than 100 cars were washed during the OMRON-CHEVRON CHARITY CARe WASH organized at Caltex Bandar Utama, raising almost another RM8,000.

3. Essentials to Charity

MY Photo 3 The spirit of giving continued with Caltex™ as two charity homes each received goods worth RM1,000 of everyday essentials. Noodles, tea, cooking oil, packet drinks and cleaning products were just some of the items contributed to the residents and students of Rumah Nur Salam and Rumah WAKE at their respective homes. The residents of both Rumah Nur Salam and Rumah WAKE include those who, in some way or another have been affected by HIV/AIDS in their lives.

4. Festive Treats

MY Photo 4 Jointly organized by Caltex™ and myTV3, a special Hari Raya open house celebration welcomed more than 85 residents and caregivers of charity homes Rumah WAKE, Rumah Nur Salam and Rumah Solehah. Themed Inspirasi Lebaran, the event featured performances by local artistes and a sumptuous feast. Raya goodie bags in the form of Caltex™ and myTV3 souvenirs also ensured all went home satisfied and none were empty-handed. The special guests included those who, in some way or another have been affected by HIV/AIDS in their lives.

For kampong-bound road travelers, Caltex™ spread the festive cheer by giving out 20,000 goodie bags at various toll plazas in the Klang Valley. Marking the second year Caltex™ has done so, this was Caltex’s way of saying thank you to fellow Malaysians and giving back to a community that has long supported the Caltex™ brand of quality products. Road travellers received a number of gifts from Caltex, including handy car care tips to help motorists reach their destination safely.

5. MyKasih Community Outreach Program

MY Photo 5 Caltex is a retail partner of the MyKasih program which contributes food aid to the needy. Tapping into technology developed by ePetrol Holdings Sdn Bhd, MyKasih works with social welfare groups and agencies to distribute funds to needy families via their MyKad. Their Mykad then acts like a debit card, and can be used to purchase selected essential items such as eggs, bread, flour and canned items at selected retail outlets, including convenience stores of participating Caltex service stations.

6. Caltex Supa Cup

MY Photo 6 Hosted by Caltex™, Supa Strikas and SK Puchong Indah, the inaugural Caltex Supa Cup futsal tournament kicked-off on November 15, 2009 with a participation of 22 teams from schools in the Petaling Jaya district. The Caltex Supa Cup was developed to help youths raise their game by providing them with a platform to improve their soccer skills as well as perform against their peers. It is the first 'futsal tournament' resulting from the successful headline sponsorship of Supa Strikas by Caltex™. Supa Strikas is the multi-platform soccer property that includes various print formats (monthly and weekly comics), comprehensive internet offering, and full length animated television series in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

7. Lions Club

MY Photo 7 On January 18,2009 Chevron contributed RM100,000 to non-government-organization The Lions Club of Subang Jaya towards the benefit of charitable causes, namely in the field of education and elevating the living standards of those living with HIV/AIDS.
