Society for the Physically Disabled
Social Responsibility and Community Relations Programs

Under the Caltex brand, Chevron (Thailand) is well recognized for its social contribution programs nationwide. Since 2000, Chevron, in partnership with the Department of Land Transport, Ministry of Transport, has sponsored the Save and Safe program to help reduce pollution in major cities in Thailand. The program also helps to raise public awareness about fuel conservation and safe driving. Save and Safe provides free vehicle inspections for passenger cars, motorcycles and school buses throughout the country. The ministry conducts emissions testing, and Chevron works with local mechanic schools to train student mechanics to provide tune-ups which are offered free to participating drivers. As an added benefit, the program gives the students real-life work experience which helps them to secure jobs upon graduation. Since 2000, more than 50,000 cars and motorcycles nationwide have been tuned up through the Save and Safe program.

Soon after the massive tsunami struck the southern coast of Thailand in 2004, Chevron dispatched a special task force to assist. While offering immediate direct aid, we also participated in programs that benefited the community for the long term. Through the Tsunami Aftermath Project, Chevron identified two schools that needed help. The company funded the construction of assembly halls for the Baan Pak Weep and Baan Bang Nieng schools, both of which are in the Khao Lak area in Phang-Nga province.

Besides being used for student assemblies, these halls are used for community gatherings and serve as temporary emergency shelters during disasters. A year later, the company built a newly paved road - The Caltex Ruam Jai Road - at Baan Pak Weep School. This makes journeys to and from school more convenient for parents as well as teachers during the hot and wet seasons. Also, dust particles are significantly reduced, minimizing harm to the health of young children and their teachers.

Caltex actively engages in community relations and sponsors programs held at the community areas around terminals nationwide such as Bangkok, Khon Khean, Surat Thani and Song Khla provinces. This is to build mutual understanding between the communities surrounding our operations and the organization.
