The Caltex brand, as part of the Chevron Corporation, has a proud history of socially responsible and ethical operations and a track record of caring for each community it operates in, through its many outreach programs. Caltex’s Community Partnerships are dedicated to filling the small needs respectfully to help the disadvantaged get on with bigger things in their lives, reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

Our community engagements in Malaysia span from education, training, charitable events and contributions to those in need, particularly that championing HIV/AIDS awareness and support. Some recent examples include:

Society for the Physically Disabled
Caltex Body Works

Launched in February 2010 under Chevron’s “Energy for Learning” global initiative, the Caltex Body Works program is a community engagement aimed to empower secondary school students aged between 15 and 17 with reproductive health information and knowledge via workshops conducted by non-governmental organization, Federation of Reproductive Health Associations, Malaysia (FRHAM). The program represents Chevron’s belief that fueling young minds with information and knowledge on reproductive health and diseases such as HIV/AIDS will shape them into healthy and responsible adults that can contribute positively to their communities and the nation at large.

With an aim to give comfort to high-risk children, Chevron volunteers marked Universal Children’s Day 2010 with a Caltex Pajama Party at Rumah Nur Salam.  Held under the Energy for Learning banner, volunteers brought cheer with 55 sets of new pajamas, 110 books, school bags, blanket pillows, snacks, and fun activities. Chevron employees also banded together to make 350 mini home-made muffins and purchase much needed necessity items such as disposable diapers and art material for the children.

Rumah Nur Salam is a 24-hour activity center and “safehouse” that provides a healthy and loving environment for high-risk children under the age of 13, living or loitering, in and around the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. These high-risk children include those who, in some way or another have been affected by HIV/AIDS in their lives.

Festive Treats

Eid festivities took on a colorful carnival atmosphere at the 2010 Hari Raya Open House. Jointly organized by Caltex and myTV3 for the second time running, the open house celebration complete with magicians and clowns welcomed 112 residents and caregivers of charity homes Rumah Solehah, Rumah Nur Salam, WAKE, Positive Shelter Home and Faith Helping Centre. Raya goodie bags in the form of Caltex™ and myTV3 souvenirs also ensured all went home satisfied and none were empty-handed. The special guests included those who, in some way or another have been affected by HIV/AIDS in their lives.

For kampong-bound road travelers, Caltex™ volunteers and the myTV3 crew spread the festive cheer by giving out 25,000 goodie bags at various toll plazas in the Klang Valley. Marking the third year Caltex™ has done so, this was Caltex’s way of saying thank you to fellow Malaysians and giving back to a community that has long supported the Caltex™ brand of quality products.

Caltex HIV/AIDS Care Quilt

Caltex HIV/AIDS Care Quilt

The volunteer spirit is strong among our employees. In 2010, Chevron employees banded together to handcraft the Caltex HIV/AIDS Care Quilt to commemorate children and adults lost to HIV/AIDS, and bring attention to organizations dedicated to improving the lives of those affected. The quilt is a memorial: a tool for education and a work of art that sends a message of remembrance, awareness and hope for a cure. Each hand-held panel also tells a moving story of the interests of those lost: family, love of animals, the sea and childhood.

The Caltex Supa Cup Clinics aims to help children aged seven to 12 raise their game by providing a platform to improve soccer skills and boost clean sportsmanship.

Co-Driving the Success of Working Women

Co-Driving the Success of Working Women

For International Women’s Day 2010, Caltex contributed a total of 68 brand new women’s professional attire, 125 lightly-worn work-appropriate wear and other articles of clothing to the MyKasih Foundation, which helps less fortunate Malaysians rebuild an independent and sustainable future. The professional-attire drive involved employees rallying together to donate gently-worn suits and business-wear that are appropriate for interviews. In addition, Caltex also donated 30 new suits as well as attaché cases suitable for presenting resumes.  A first time effort of its kind by Caltex, the initiative hoped to lessen the difficulty of entering or re-entering the workforce for women.

Caltex is also a retail partner of the MyKasih program which contributes food aid to the needy. Tapping into technology developed by ePetrol Holdings Sdn Bhd, MyKasih works with social welfare groups and agencies to distribute funds to needy families via their MyKad. Their Mykad then acts like a debit card, and can be used to purchase selected essential items such as eggs, bread, flour and canned items at selected retail outlets, including a Caltex convenience store in Selayang.
