In Cambodia, Chevron has made contributions to several organizations to improve the quality of life of underprivileged adults and children.
In July 2009, Chevron worked in partnership with Pact Cambodia, the National AIDS Authority, and the Kandal Provincial of the People Living with HIV&AIDS Network. These partners arranged a charity event to provide food and school supplies to orphans and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
In June 2009 and March 2010, Chevron worked with the voluntary youth group, SSEAYP International Cambodia (SIC) to help poor students. SIC provided educational programs to more than 300 students and 150 villagers. Chevron donated books, stationery, clothing and food.
Chevron sponsored a day-long seminar in August 2009 aimed at helping recent high school graduates prepare for success after high school. The event, organized by Help Our Homeland, a non-profit organization in Cambodia, was the first of its kind in Cambodia and attracted about 1,300 young people from across the nation.
In 2009, Chevron joined forces with a youth group to support poor students of the Svay Chrom district in Svay Reang province. Students from 50 villages benefited from educational activities. Chevron employees and individual contributors donated clothing.
Chevron also supports programs that promote safe driving. In 2006, in partnership with the Handicap & National Road Safety Committee, Chevron - under the Caltex brand - initiated a road safety program. The program addresses the root causes of road traffic incidents using advocacy, enforcement, education and communication. In 2009 and 2010, some 500 helmets were distributed to high-risk students and teachers.
